“Consider replacing your battery…There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly.”  There is a window display when people use the windows 7 OS .

Despite a major Windows 7 design goal of improved laptop battery life, some users are reporting a battery-related error.

On some laptops with perfectly good laptop batteries, Windows is displaying an error that says “Consider replacing your battery…There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly.” The problem has been discussed in a user forum on Microsoft’s TechNet site aimed at IT professionals.

When asked for a comment on the issue, a Microsoft representative responded that the company is investigating. “Some computers running Windows 7 receive a warning that the battery needs to be replaced when the battery is new or in good health,” the representative said. “In conjunction with our hardware partners, we are investigating this issue. The warning received on some computers using Windows 7 uses firmware information to determine if battery replacement is needed. This is new functionality offered by Windows 7. We are working with our partners to determine the root cause of what appear to be erroneous warnings and will update the TechNet forum with information and guidance as it becomes available.”

Many other users have reported that Windows 7 actually extends their batteries’ lives, and Microsoft engineers have conducted tests showing that the newer OS improves battery life on a ThinkPad T400 by 1.4 hours compared with Windows XP SP2 running on the same machine. They also demonstrated an 11 percent improvement in power consumption with a 2.53-MHz Penryn CPU for DVD playback compared with Vista.
